Kiwi Kids News – Dame Valarie Adams announces retirement

Olympic shot put champion Dame Valarie Adams has announced her retirement from competition. In the 22 years of competing she has won she has won four Olympic medals, four world indoor and outdoor titles, first world title at the youth level in 2001, won the first of three Commonwealth Games gold medals in 2006 and her first Olympic title in 2008. She has also been named sportswomen of the year seven times. She says her heart, mind and body decided now was the time to leave her shot put career.

  1. Car manufacturer BMW has created world-first technology that changes the colour of a car with the press of a button. The new car was displayed for the first time at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month. The technology works by bringing different pigments to the outside when energised by electrical signals. These signals are controlled by a button in the vehicle or on a phone app. The car changes shades, designs, and colours giving different patterns in black, white, and grey combinations.
  2. The government is calling to New Zealanders in Ukraine to leave immediately, heightened military tension in the area, foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta made the announcement last week. The New Zealand Government is advising New Zealanders in Ukraine to leave immediately while there are flights able to get them home,” Mahuta said in a statement. New Zealand’s government’s ability to help people in Ukraine is very limited. New Zealand’s advice has also been followed by Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

  1. New Zealand director, Peter Jackson is named world’s highest paid entertainer. Peter Jackson has made NZ$870m last year, mainly through sale of part of his visual effects in business Weta Digital to Unity Software, he sold it for $2.4bn. He is now the third person in history to become a billionaire from making films. Top 10 entertainers are all male and three women made the top 20.

2. A grumpy dog with insane fur has gone famous all over the internet. The dog’s name is Proshka and is two years old. He has been gaining attention and followers of Instagram because of his appearance. Proshka has been compared to Chewbacca and other characters.

Glen Innes is a friendly area where most school children hang around, offers a variety of learning opportunities and multiple schools scattered in the area. Glen Innes’s dairies and shops are everywhere and include many items.
